What is Dance Sema Zen?
Dance Sema Zen is a methodology and movement modality to reconnect the body, mind, and spirit. The Sufi mystic
whirled as an expression of his heightened state of being, or he whirled as a means of connecting with his elevated state of being. He did not apply any rules or ceremonies. It was instinctual, intuitive and absolutely necessary. Arguably, it marked the most significant stage of his salvation.It is primarily at this initial spark of inspiration that Dance Sema Zen connects with and take its lead from Rumi’s whirling dance.
Dance Sema Zen is a blueprint to reshaping neurobiology and the physical body with clear steps to fire new brain synapses through movement. We discover more and more that the key to returning to wholeness/balance (zen) and awakening our deep dormant consciousness resides within the body.

Anna has been interested in dance from a young age. She was born in London from an English Mother and an Anatolian Alevi Father. She studied a BA Contemporary Dance at Roehampton Institute of Surrey, and Dance Teacher Training and Learning at Trinity Laban Conservetoire. Whilst living in India she studied Bharatanatyam. Through her inquiry, she realised a more meaningful appreciation and use of dance: its spiritual, meditative, and curative aspects.

Sufi Whirling
The Turkish word semazen, borrowed from Persian sama-zan, sama meaning listening, from Arabic and zan meaning doer, is a type of movement meditation that evokes deep listening to spirit via the heart.
Whilst Sufi whirling is a cultural tradition, it is also a way of life and musters physical, mental and spiritual proficiency. Anybody can master whirling and experience the mystical; you don’t need to be from the community to learn to whirl and relate to its philosophies. With time and extensive practice, anybody can attain the power to embark on a journey of mystical intoxication and liberation.
Conscious Movement
Life is a series of encounters. Conscious dance is about an encounter with yourself that is with precision and a full awareness of the physical mechanisms at work. It is about being self-aware enough to connect to your physical, spiritual and emotional needs in the moment.
